Welcome

A warm welcome to Merit.

Located in Bucknall, Stoke-on-Trent, our small school supports young people with a range of medical and mental health conditions, which make attending mainstream school too difficult for them.

Merit is maintained by the Stoke-on-Trent Local Authority, and serves the needs of students from the 17 Stoke secondary schools. Students are referred via their mainstream school to the Education Re-engagement Team at the Local Authority.

Our highly qualified and experienced staff team are dedicated to providing a friendly, nurturing, and safe environment for our students, empowering the young people in our care to develop their emotional and social skills and improve their resilience and self-esteem.

In addition, some of the students at Merit may have come from challenging backgrounds and as such, we are committed to providing the young people in our care with the opportunity to turn their lives around, and develop healthy coping mechanisms for the future.

At Merit:

  • We are led by a strong Management Board who work closely with parents and other specialist teams in order to produce the best possible outcomes for the young people that we support
  • Offer a close-knit school ethos and small teaching groups, meaning that each student receives lots of 1:1 support in order to meet their unique needs and challenges
  • Provide a strong academic focus, coupled with evidence-based therapeutic provision

Our core aim is to enable our students to reintegrate back into mainstream school where possible, or build the confidence to progress to Post-16 provision and further education.

We look forward to welcoming you to Merit. Please contact us for a visit on 01782 928980 or email mpru@meritpru-stoke.org.uk.
