Hospital School

The Merit Hospital Classroom

Merit's hospital classroom is part of the Staffordshire Children's Hospital at RSUH. Recently designated as a specialist children's hospital, children from Stoke and Staffordshire will soon be able to receive treatment for trauma and neurosurgery without having to travel to Birmingham.

We understand that a stay in hospital can be very difficult and our friendly, experienced teaching team aim to make things as normal as possible for children and their families. It is important that children can continue their education whilst they are in hospital and have the opportunity to visit the classroom where there are lots of opportunities for fun, personalised and high quality lessons.

All children between the ages of 4 and 16 years are encouraged to access lessons, this includes both short and long term patients. Teaching takes place in the classroom as well as at the bedside depending on individual need.

The hospital teachers work with the child's school to ensure learning is matched to individual needs and abilities, planning lessons in line with the EYFS, Primary and Secondary Curriculums.
