Welcome from the Headteacher
MERIT – A warm welcome to the Merit website!
Merit is the school that delivers Stoke’s educational provision for medical and mental health needs. It also incorporates hospital education, home and personal tuition. Merit is also delighted to be part of the Stoke Special Schools' Learning Trust and benefit from the support and contribution from the partner schools within the Trust.
Merit is a school in every sense of the word except that students only stay for a short time. All students have been referred to us because of medical and mental health needs and currently the average time a student remains on our role is approximately two terms.
When ready, we endeavour to reintegrate students back into their mainstream school in a structured, supported way. In year 11 we prepare students for the next stage of their journey towards taking their place as a responsible citizen, whether this is through college, further education, apprenticeship or other provision.
For all students at Merit we provide a caring, purposeful environment where every student is encouraged to achieve their potential. Learning is underpinned by our Therapeutic and Wellbeing curriculum designed to encourage independence and inspire confidence. We consistently provide a thoughtful and rigorous education within a small school atmosphere of intimacy and security. We place great emphasis on the excellent relationships that exist between students and between staff and students.
The staff at Merit have a passion for teaching and provide vibrant and dynamic lessons which engages students and so unlocks their potential. Our support team of talented and sensitive staff reinforces the sense of security required for progress to be made. While we make great achievements academically we also recognise how important it is for our students to be happy and to develop their wellbeing skills.
Everyone is welcome to come and see us in action so please call the school office on 01782 236412 to book your visit!
