Trips and Visits
There are many opportunities for going out at Merit and when a student is admitted parents are asked to complete a form giving their consent for a student to travel in the locality. This is for a trip to a local museum or event within a short distance. Sometimes we are given free tickets for the theatre and this has been on the actual day!
If there is a planned excursion such as a Geography field trip or end of term event, parents will receive a letter outlining the details and arrangements for that trip. Risk assessments and specific permissions are obtained.
Students will not be allowed to go out of Merit locally or for a trip further away without parental permission.
Our students have been regularly congratulated on their behaviour and appearance when off site and representing the school. For some students it may be the first time they have been on a train or a coach and many trips are new places for them to visit.
Trips that have been most successful have included:-
- Stanley head Outdoor Pursuits/Team Building
- Harry Potter World
- Castleford (Geography field trip)
- Manchester Christmas markets
- Chill Factor
- Birmingham Sea world
- Theatre productions such as ‘Blood Brothers’
- Cudmore Fisheries
- Houses of Parliament
There are many other trips and visits to all local colleges for year 10 and 11 students as well as visits to Keele and Staffordshire Universities.
